Last Weekends Pies

Last weekend I made pies for dinner for both Saturday and Sunday night.

I love cooking pies whether they are savoury or sweet there is just something about pies that I love.

The two that I made last weekend were both savoury. One was just plain beef pie and the other one I added bacon to it so it was a beef and bacon pie.
Both were absolutely delicious.

Arashi Aiba Inspired Food

After seeing Mabo Tofu again and again on Arashi related shows I decided to have a go it myself today.
So I searched around a for recipe found one that looked pretty easy and gave it a go.
Now my version and the recipe differed slightly and to be honest I do not know how big a difference it is because I've never had mabo tofu before but I what I cooked tasted awesome.
You can this recipe at Mabo Tofu@about.com

The recipe I used is as follows.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp finely chopped fresh ginger
  • 1/2 negi or leek, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp tobanjan (hot bean paste)* see note
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 Tbsp miso bean paste
  • 2 Tbsp sake
  • 1 tsp chicken soup powder
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 block cotton tofu, about 1 lb, cut into small cubes
  • 1 Tbsp katakuriko/corn starch
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 4 cups steamed rice

Note
* This was the only ingredient I did not have on hand and being the lazy ass that I am decided I would substitute this with what I had sitting in the fridge which was Korean hot pepper paste.

Did I mention how good this tasted?
I hope it freezes well cause I've frozen the leftovers for lunches.

Look What I Found Under My Pillow

The weather here in Sydney or out where I live turned very cold last week in preparation of the coming winter.
When I was getting ready to get in to bed on Tuesday I found this under my pillows.
I didn't have the heart to move her so I just shared a pillow with her. Lucky I have a double bed and four pillows because between me and three cats there isn't a lot of room left on the bed.

Toby was quick to rediscover his love of heaters and getting as close as possible to it as he can without burning his nose.

Random Insects Around my Garden

Does anyone know what happens to Spiders in winter? Do they die or do they hide away somewhere till the warm weather?

This Pretty Lady has been living on the outside of our lounge room window all season, she moved in when she was a teeny weeny baby, and we have watched her grow, watched as a male come to visit and then watched her build her nest up in the corner of the window. Now the weather is turning cool I wonder what will happen to her. If she dies we are hoping that when he babies hatch that one of them will stay in our window and set up home in place of its mum.

There is a bush in our backyard that is filled with busy, buzzing wasps, the little things are so quick though its hard to get a photo of them.

And that's the end of this little update. I hope everyone has had a great weekend and that you are all well and happy.

*hugs*
