Sydney Morning Herald Article - 4 August 2009

I don't mind telling you but this stuff scares the shits out of me, this is in MY BACKYARD!!!

I live at Hammondville which is the suburb next to Holsworthy and I catch a the train each day to and from work from Holsworthy station which backs onto the Army Barracks entrance.
I know people that have family and friends in the army and that are often stationed at Holsworthy.

Hearing about a thwarted Terrorist attack in my Backyard is better than hearing about/witnessing a terrorist attack in my Backyard, so kudos to all involved at busting this cell.

What are your guys thoughts on terrorism and the people commit acts of terrorists. not just actual violence but terrorism in all its forms.

i've just read something on the suicide bomb attack at Indonesia that happened a few weeks ago. one of the speculations why the bombers chose Indonesia was because they want to build an Islamic region starting from Indonesia and then will include Malaysia, Singapore and some other countries.

Hey, I'm a Muslim myself but personally i don't approve at such things as using violence even if the intention is good. You're sacrificing innocent ppl's lives here. So what if u manage to finally build an Islamic region? Will ppl respect u? Islam is never a terrorist religion. These terrorists are hiding under the mask of Islam. Islam never allows killing the innocents or the public. Even in declared war, certain rules must be followed such as no women, children, old ppl, and non-combatants shall be killed. So are these terrorists really practicing the Islamic way?

I'm sorry if this comment is too long and deep (or sensitive). There has been misunderstanding regarding this thing and it's affecting innocent Muslims out there like this pregnant Muslim lady who was stabbed to death in a court after testifying about her neighbour who called her 'terrorist'.

I know that it is only a radical few who makew th emnay look bad, it happens in all religions and cultures.

THanks to Arashi and the Arashi Forum I have gotten to make friends with lots of people from different cultures anreligions and we all get along happily together we not discrimination or hatred.

I hat terrorism in all its forms, whether it is perpertrated by christians, muslims buddhists, sikhs etc I dont care who does it, I just hope that those self styled Martyrs discover that they are not going to heaven after all.

Hmmm it's a little bit scary. My fiancee works there and was there today and will be there tomorrow. *shrugs*

My own feelings are that the media mentioned 'suspicious activity' around other army bases as well. Holsworthy got all the attention in the media today as a few major battalions are based there and probably to distract from the fact that Puckapunyal, 1hr north of where the men were arrested, was probably under alleged threat as well. Possibly seriously so. No mention of that in the media.

Oh well, the media also happily showed the high security special forces training centre at Holsworthy on the news, which is on Google, as well as showing what I hope is stock footage of infantry including their faces.

Given what my fiancee does for a living, I think terrorist activity is cowardly and scarily dangerous for the men and women who serve our country. I also think our forces, in the police, military and other agencies are very well trained and hopefully as proven today, they will intercept these alleged terrorist cells before they inflict violence.

They say the realist chance of such an attack being pulled off on or near an army base is very slim. There is more of a chance of terrorist activity on public transport in my opinion.

I thought of you guys when I read the paper, but what got me was the fact they had cased out Holsworthy, i would assume they either drove over form Lakemba where it is reported some of them stayed or they caught a train and got off at holsworthy station.

It doesnt really matter where they were planning to attack the thought of a terrorism being plotted against austrlainas in australia just gives me the willies.
